About Ocean Nomads Trips
A few times a year we organize something special and rather spontaneous at sea. Ocean Nomads events and expeditions connect people to each other and to the ocean. Nothing brings people together like actually bringing people together. And nothing triggers and activates more than actual experience.
We add nature and adventure into the mix, and we have a recipe for creating a big dose of positive energy and accelerating change for a common good. We provide ocean adventure and encourage low-impact travel.

The Voyage
The 1902 schooner you may remember from our 2021 Macaronesia trip and the 2022/2023 Atlantic expedition. We're teaming up again for a full circle around the Atlantic: Amsterdam to Madeira to the Canaries to Cape Verde to the Caribbean and back via the Azores. Four months around the Atlantic, split into 8 legs you can join one or more of.
We're super proud to have our Ocean Nomad Julie full on board welcoming you. She joined a trip in 2022 and pretty much never left boat life, and SV Twister in particular :)
We're also super excited to partly synchronize this trip with the wild mission of Koen kitesurfing across the Atlantic, with Thomas as support vessel, setting out for his polar mission.
3rd of January we all sail / kite out from Cape Verde at the same time! How exciting!? It may be the biggest ON gathering ever!
SV Twister is a schooner built in 1902. Originally a wooden fishing boat, her hull was replaced with steel fifty-five years later so she could keep sailing. She still does. She’s beautiful. She’s fast. She’s solid. She’s big. She’s spacious. She’s super comfortable. She’s got soul. She lasts. Dutch flag, modern offshore comforts, every safety certificate. Last season she sailed 5.000 nautical miles offshore in conditions from champagne sailing to a 9 Beaufort. The only thing that broke were two plates.

There are very few vessels that safely, legally, and comfortably take people sailing between countries. We are super lucky and grateful for this team-up. It's a very unique and special opportunity to be able to facilitate this.
We sailed around the Atlantic! A recap and wrap up from our previous Atlantic Circle
2022/2023 we teamed up with SV Twister for the full Atlantic circle. A recap to show you what it was like. The hands-on sailing of the beautiful ship, travelling into new countries by sail, jumping into 5000 deep ocean waters, spotting wildlife and even swimming with dolphins, the 5* meals that some of you managed to prepare, on an angle, exploring Caribbean culture and nature, especially the islands and bays that could only be reached by sail. The growth, learnings and transformation many of us experienced. From different seamanship like weather reading, navigation, to cooking on angles, facing tough times when the weather or our seasickness was giving us a tough time, and learning from each other!

Julie joined the original Ocean Nomads Atlantic expedition as a novice and never left. She hitchhiked across the Atlantic herself, made the Caribbean home, and has been building her sailing life ever since. She’ll be onboard for the Ocean Nomads Expedition legs (2, 3, 4) as trip host, welcoming you, helping you find your sea legs, and setting the ON vibes and values at sea.
Brianna joined us sailing from Madeira to the Canaries a few years back and continued ocean nomad life ever since. She’s the steady presence behind the applications, communication, and preparation for every leg of the expedition, making sure you arrive informed and ready.
Suzanne is the founder of Ocean Nomads, a Yachtmaster Offshore captain, and author of the books Ocean Nomad and Salz auf der Haut. She flippered to SV Twister in an anchorage a few years ago to say hi, and here we are sailing the world all together. If there’s one thing she learned from sailing 50.000+ nautical miles on many different boats, it’s the people who make the trip. And it’s the connection to nature that sets the next course of your life.
And of course the professional Crew (Julie is one of them) and owner of SV Twister, and the rest of our team shining their superpowers in their way to keep moving the Ocean Nomads movement.
